A container bakery for education, nutrition, and future opportunities in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Together with the project partner Evangelical Church of German Language in Addis Ababa, Bread Against Need planned, financed, built, and opened a container bakery in mid-2024.

The container bakery provides school meals for the 230 local Ethiopian students who receive scholarships at the affiliated German Church School. This holistic support is of tremendous help to the families in need.

The long-term and profitable operation of the bakery is also ensured through the sale of German baked goods / sourdough breads during Sunday services to the predominantly German-speaking members of the congregation. By the end of 2025, partnerships with resellers are also planned.

Last but not least, six young, single, and disadvantaged mothers of students are being trained so they can take up qualified and paid employment while their children are at school. Our gratitude goes to the initiators of the container bakery, Pastor Matthias Rohlfing and his wife Anne, as well as the current pastor, Jürgen Klein.
