The Foundation
The “Brot gegen Not” foundation helps people, mainly adolescents and young adults, who eke out a living on the streets and are victims of disabilities, war, flight and natural disasters.
By helping people to help themselves, “Brot gegen Not” wants to give these people a future, wherever hunger, misery and unemployment are blocking their future. The foundation is non-profit and charitable. “Brot gegen Not” was founded by Heiner Kamps.
The foundation focuses on practical vocational training in the bakery trade. This philosophy makes it possible to convert the competence and wealth of experience of the founder into effective development aid.
Wherever the need is greatest, the foundation sets up a modern, well-equipped training bakery. There, young people are trained by experienced bakers in the bakery trade. They then receive lessons in the basics of business management.
The use of funds by the foundation is not only checked annually by the DZI, but also regularly monitored by the Board of Trustees. The foundation also employs a board of directors charged with identifying suitable projects and funding them. These are then implemented with the help of a project manager.
The board of trustees of a foundation has similar tasks as the supervisory board of a stock corporation. The Board of Trustees of “Brot gegen Not” monitors the use of funds and the effectiveness of the vocational training measures initiated by the foundation.

DZI
The German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI) was founded in 1893. The institute checks social organizations for their trustworthiness and use of their donations. Since 1992, the DZI has awarded verified organizations the donation-seal. All seal holders are subject to strict annual tests. In addition to the use of funds, other decisive criteria such as the existence of internal management and control mechanisms, the significance of the financial reports and transparency towards the public are taken into account.
Brot gegen Not has been an exemplary seal holder since 2009 and provides sustainable help for self-help through training measures within the bakeries, which will reach the next generations in need for years to come.
