Senegal – Saly / Nguekhokh

Education, Opportunities, and Bread for the Future

Our board member Ella Kamps is frequently on site to monitor and support the work. Since 2024, a place full of hope and opportunity has been taking shape in Nguekhokh, Senegal: up to 600 children aged 6–12 will be able to attend the school we are building. Construction is in full swing – with the preparation of the foundation slabs and the start of the structural work, we have reached an important milestone. Completion of the project is planned for the end of 2025.

A total of twelve modern classrooms – six on each side of the school building – as well as an informative computer room, an inner courtyard for breaks and interaction, a staff room, and a principal’s office form the heart of the facility.

A special highlight is the integrated bakery training center at the front of the school. It will not only provide fresh bread and a warm meal for the children, but also create training opportunities and contribute to the school’s long-term funding through the sale of baked goods.

With this project, we aim not only to provide education, but also to open up future prospects – for the children, their families, and the entire region.

Update:

On October 25, 2025, the school was successfully completed and officially opened – a significant milestone for the entire project and the people of Nguekhokh. Since then, the classrooms have been filling with life, and the first children have already begun their lessons. The bakery training center is currently in its final stages of construction and is expected to be fully completed in December 2025.

Update 2026:

A very special project has reached a successful milestone:
The bakery in Senegal has been fully completed and is now officially open.

What once started as a vision has become reality – a place that not only provides fresh bread and baked goods, but also creates new opportunities.

Another important highlight was the visit of the Kamps family in February 2026. Being there in person allowed them to truly experience how an idea turned into a vibrant, functioning business. The visit was filled with pride, joy, and deep appreciation for what has been achieved together.

Today, the bakery stands for much more than craftsmanship – it is a symbol of successful collaboration, sustainable development, and shared responsibility.

We look back on this project with great satisfaction and are proud of what has been accomplished.
